Vertigo -(1958)Alfred Hitchcock

Vertigo - To have a fear of heights.

From the opening sequence of Vertigo we find out:
A few of the characters which include a police man and two other characters that are trying to get away from him, we also find out the location which is a city and they are running along the tops of the buildings.
The opening sequence contains a few enigmas including  ' why were they running along the roof tops?', 'why were they being chased?'
A crime has obviously been committed and they're being chased along the roof tops of buildings which fits with the title 'vertigo' which is a fear of heights.
The Opening sequence uses  sound including a non diegetic soundtrack which is very dramatic and becomes more intense. Its also quite a spooky noise  that fits with the thriller conventions it also goes along with a hypnotic title sequence which also fits with the name 'Vertigo' which means 'dizziness'.
The opening sequence uses camera work including a zoom in on the eye leading to a Extreme close up which can be seen as quite freaky and we only see the eye of the character so we question 'who is this person?' which is another enigma.
A point of view shop of them climbing up the ladder,
a long shot showing them running along roof tops, Close up of the focus of hands gripping the bar.
Also the vertigo effect was introduced in this movie, this is used in the opening sequence which includes zooming in and tracking back this is used when the policeman falls down to this death.
Editing in the opening sequence includes the eyes in the title sequence turning red also in the title sequence there is shapes spinning as well as spirals and words coming from the girls eye.
Mise-en-scene includes the policemen's uniforms and the man dressed in a suit also the scenery along the rooftops. Also there is a guy wearing all white.
